On October 4th, the Northern Patriots football team defended our school against Great Mills. Northern High School’s football coaches did a phenomenal job making sure their players were confident and prepared, “I believe it will be a good game and I believe at the end of the game we will win,” said 10th grader Hudson Cleary “but I think that Great Mills will definitely put up a good competition against us.”
In order to prepare for the big game, football players watched plenty of film and did intense workouts in hopes of succeeding in the game. However, the football players stated that the practices aren’t altered too much in preparation for the game because they are always held to a high standard. Their practices in the week leading up to the game were similar to the rest of the seasons, because the football players are expected to always perform their best, not just during the homecoming game.
This game is not the first time the Northern Patriots have faced Great Mills, but this time they were prepared. “I think we’ve improved since week one, we’re a better team than what we were originally,” stated 11th grader Caso Harris. The players felt with the preparation they’ve had since they defeated Great Mills last year, they were surely to bring home a win.
During this exciting night, the student section was roaring with excitement for the homecoming game. The student section did not disappoint when it came to bringing the school spirit. The stands were full of red, white, and blue to support our football team before homecoming. The Northern cheer team really helped to bring the school spirit and draw some energy out of the Northern’s student section. From new chants and routines, the cheer team truly brought a performance. “We spent two weeks working on our routine for homecoming to make it extra special” according to senior cheer captain Patrice Cameron. The cheer team said they try their best to get the crowd engaged with them to truly make the game enjoyable.
At the end of the night the Northern High School Patriots brought home a close win against Great Mills and an overall great experience for homecoming 2024.
