A look into Northern High Schools 24-25 football team.

Under the Friday night lights, the Northern Patriots are gearing up for another action-packed season, ready to tackle tough competition and defend their Patriot Pride. With the football team’s hard work and dedication, they expect an outstanding season. Logan Pring, the varsity center, has large expectations for this season. “I expect a big season with a good offense and great defense, and by the end of it, I want to be playing at the Navy stadium and winning the state championship.” Alex Moskios, the quarterback, had a similar answer to Pring, “a winning season and a state championship.” Grant Neal and Dylan Powell said that “We will do better than people expect,” and “It’s the underdog season.” All of the boys this year are hoping to make it to the championship.
The preparation started way before the first game. Throughout the summer, the team has tough practices in the scolding heat–building teamwork, strength and endurance. Players are encouraged to develop and enhance their skills, as well as understand their roles on the team. Moskios gives us an inside look at what a practice looks like. “Running offense, defense and special team periods.” Powell gave us a different perspective “Blood, Sweat and tears.” Mentally preparing for a big game is different for all the players. The boys gave several different traditions they use to get ready. “I like to listen to the same song on repeat on the way to the school, and I like to work on my technique on the field before our actual warm ups.” Pring and Moskios both said they run through drills and go over film. This is unlike Powell and Neal, who said they do yoga and pilates to get ready for a game.
From the first kickoff to the last whistle, every game is full of excitement and emotions for all the players. This year, the Patriots have many home games against some tough competitors. Every year, the most exciting game is against the school’s rival, Huntingtown. When the boys were asked which game they were most excited for, they all answered Huntingtown. Except Neal, who said he was most excited for the team dinners… Regardless, Both students and parents are ready to see how far the team will progress this season.
