Off the streets of New Orleans, a rivalry brews. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles rematch the big game in Super Bowl LIX. In 2023, the Eagles fell three points short of the Chiefs in an absolute heartbreaker. This time, they were out for blood, they wanted that win.

The Eagles set the game’s tone as they were the first to put numbers on the board. Quarterback Jalen Hurts ran the ball in to get the first touchdown of the game, which wouldn’t even be his best play in this MVP game for him. The Chiefs tried to get points, but the Eagles’ defense was just on lock, not allowing a single point for them at all in the first quarter. The first quarter ended 7-0 Eagles.

The second quarter was just pure Eagles dominance. Kicker Jake Elliot kept the scoring going with a 48-yard field goal to make the score double digits. That in the grand scheme of the quarter was minute to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing an interception to Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean for them to score 7 more points. While that was bad, it got even worse for the Chiefs when AJ Brown scored to make the score 24-0. By the end of the half, the Chiefs would need a miracle, which didn’t look realistic as Mahomes threw two interceptions and got sacked three times.

DeJean runs in the intercepted touchdown.

The third quarter came underway, and Elliot kicked off the scoring with another 48-yard field goal. The Chiefs tried to get some momentum, but all hopes of that fell when DeVonte Smith caught a 46-yard throw for a touchdown making the score 34-0. By this point, it was clear that the Chiefs were done. The effort wasn’t there on the field, and it was apparent by the score. But in some sign of life, the Chiefs did manage to get a touchdown, but they didn’t cash in on their two-point attempt making the score 34-6.

The fourth quarter came quickly, and after two field goals from Elliot, the score was 40-6. By this time, the Eagles began clearing their bench allowing second and third-string players to play in this big game. After the backups came in, the Chiefs scored two more touchdowns until second-string quarterback Kenny Pickett took a knee ending the game 40-22. The Eagles took the Vince Lombardi Trophy back to Philadelphia.

Hurts and Coach Sirianni celebrate the win.

Philadelphia was full of joy and excitement filling the streets, climbing the poles, and just all out celebrating the win. Hurts took home the MVP award and running back Saquon Barkley took home Offensive Player of the Year at the NFL Honors. Pride was apparent in Philly with over a million people joining the Eagles in celebrating their win at the Super Bowl parade, all singing, “Fly Eagles Fly.”
