Back in July of 2021, a new restaurant opened in Annapolis, True Food Kitchen. The restaurant’s menu is based on an anti-inflammatory food pyramid structure and study based off Dr. Andrew Weil. The restaurant is located behind Target in the Annapolis shopping center and is a great post-shop stop.
There’s not a wide variety of drinks featured on the menu, but what is there is spectacular. They offer a variety of seltzer waters in replacement to their lack of Pepsi or Coca-Cola products. They also offer several different lemonades and teas. Their iced matcha latte, which is severed with oat milk, was a great, calming and cleansing refreshment for the evening. Another great drink was their pink dragon fruit lemonade. It tastes a lot like a plain pink lemonade, but the dragon fruit makes it extremely hydrating and makes the drink a nice vibrant shade of pink.
True Food has a great selection of appetizers to start off your night, from a loaf of sourdough bread, chips and guacamole or hummus, roasted brussels sprouts, butternut squash soup, tuna lettuce wraps, and much more. The sourdough loaf is coated with tangy garlic and honey butter. The bread is very fluffy and soft, and the garlic adds a great touch of flavor too it, along with a very sweet butter to put on top. Then the guacamole has added lime, edamame and pistachio pesto. For those who may not be the biggest guacamole fans, this will certainly change your mind. It is such a delicious combination of flavor scooped on top of their purple salted tortilla chips.
True Food’s menu of entrees is endless, from a variety of salads, sandwiches, veggie burgers, pizzas, and pastas. A personal favorite entrée of True Food’s is their grilled chicken ranch wrap. The wrap is a combination of chicken, avocado, roasted peppers, and an assortment of greens. But what really ties it all together is the hot chili ranch that is embedded in the tortilla. The sauce is so spectacular it will have you licking the plate once you’re done. The wrap comes with an option of a side like mac and cheese. The mac and cheese is more like a serving of seasoned buttered noodles since most of their menu is vegan friendly. It’s also no secret based of their menu that True Food loves their squash. From spaghetti squash, squash pizza and even a squash pie for dessert.
Speaking of dessert, True Food has some great healthy dessert options. A chocolate peanut butter tarte made with almonds and chocolate ganache, flourless chocolate cake, and even some sorbet. They also offer a delicious chai caramel cake that is vegan friendly and topped off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. The cake is very fluffy and moist with an overwhelming caramel taste, then the ice cream balances out not only the temperature but the flavor as well.
It’s usually pretty difficult to find somewhere that serves good but also healthy food with todays culture of fast foods, giant cookies, and binging at its finest. Yet, True Food keeps everything healthy and proportionate. So, if you are looking for a delicious, diet-friendly restaurant, True Food Kitchen should be your top choice.
