From television to the classroom- fashion has always been a hot topic, and throughout the years, it’s changed. The latest brands come out with new styles, and with the rise of fast fashion and TikTok, fashion trends run their course fast. 2020 was the year of cow-prints, and more alternative looks, while 2025 seems to be the year of animal print and 90’s styles.
Animal prints have been big since last year, as they have become very memorable and a huge fashion statement. These bold prints are often paired with gold jewelry, UGGS, or even adidas. There are many possible ways to style cheetah print, zebra print, leopard print, and even tiger print. This trend blew up over TikTok, giving many girls inspiration on how they can incorporate the fashion into their daily fashion wear.

A style that is now widely popular is the y2k fashion. The style y2k is heavily based on the early 2000s styles including shiny and chunky jewelry. rhinestones, animal prints, low rise pants, and matching tracksuits. Senior Isabel Argueta stated “I really like y2k fashion. I wear a lot of low-rise jeans, flared jeans, and I like my lacy tops with dark colors. “Argueta, along with many girls here at Northern, are embracing the unique vibe that comes with Y2k fashion. Freshman Haylie Ripple stated, “If your outfit doesn’t catch my eye, it is low-key boring. If I do not look at you and think your outfit is beautiful, it’s boring.”

Another trend that will most likely be big is nautical outfits, especially for girls during the summertime. In Maryland, beaches and the bay are a big part of people’s everyday lives. Maryland has places like Assateague Island and Ocean City that are just a few hours away and are big hot spots for Marylanders to go to for a summer getaway. These places that are local can heavily influence what to wear for the seasons, and how to dress for the summer weather. With how popular the summer months are for shopping; the seasonal summer pieces are very fashionable.

Another big fashion trend that is on the rise is more street-fashion, featuring more baggy jeans and pants, t-shirts that often have 90s bands or jerseys, and big chunky jewelry. Streetwear fashion often has basic clothes, and can rely heavily on accessories like chunky rings, chunky necklaces, baseball hats or beanies, and even headphones. The color scheme of this style relies on more neutral tones, like dark blues, reds, greys, greens, and whites. It is heavily based on urban and city fashion, getting its name “streetwear.”
