When you are young, you are still learning and developing likes and dislikes of certain things, media is one of them. Media is everywhere now and can persuade you of your actions and thoughts. The television shows you obsessed over when you were young can influence who you are today. With seniors about to make the biggest change of their life, we ask northern students to look back on what their favorite childhood show was and how they think it affected them.
Senior, Carly Damon, said her favorite show was “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” which aired from 2011- 2016 on Disney Junior. At the end of each episode the main character, Jake, and the rest of his friends collect gold doubloons and add it to their pirate chest. Damon had a “Jake and the Neverland pirates” themed birthday party which her mom had planned. She recalls, “She handmade invitations and it was at our community pool.” She states the good memories related to the show and the party, “I have such good memories of me and my childhood best friend and my brother dressed up as the characters.”

Senior, Samantha Marti, talked about another popular Disney show called, “Jessi.” The show ran from 2011 to 2016 with four seasons. Jessi was about a struggling actress who becomes a nanny when she’s desperate for a job. She ends up living in a penthouse with the Ross family and their four kids. The show is actually ranked number six on Disney Plus’s top 50 kids series list. Marti explains, “the show was funny and shaped my humor and the way I am now.”
Senior Wyatt Wright had a battle between the show “Fraggle Rock” and “Sesame Street.” Wright said that the shows gave him an impression that learning anything takes open mindedness and effort. These shows also showed Wright that odd humor or making mistakes does not detract from you as a person
