It’s the classic cliché: the girl has to choose between the two guys that are smitten for her, and it’s not easy. Despite being a classic, this cliché sparks a lot of controversy in the entertainment world. The early 2000’s truly pushed the rival romance themes that made fans everywhere go to war for their beloved “teams.” Some of Northern’s thoughts on these tension-filled teams can be read below.
The Vampire Diaries-
In 2009, the CW dropped the teen romance drama “The Vampire Diaries.” The concept of the show is that a normal girl named Elena captures the attention of brother vampires Stefan and Damon. From there, the supernatural lore and relationship drama spirals. The two teams that fans will fight over are Team Damon and Team Stefan. This decade-old debate is sure to leave a passionate fan yapping for hours. Juniors Annelise Stevens and Sienna Copeland give their preferences for who’s best for Elena.
“I’m Team Damon because Stefan is literally the worst.” – Sienna Copeland
“100% Team Damon, he’s so much better, Stefan is just really sensitive and Damon is just the better choice.” – Annelise Stevens
The Summer I Turned Pretty-
When Prime Video came out with “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” the internet went wild. Fans stormed to various social media sites to give their take on which boy is best for the leading lady, Belly. Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah trended a good amount on Twitter (X) last summer with the renewal of the show, and since then the debate has remained hot. Stevens returns with her take on the brother rivalry, and Senior Mairead Fitzgerald has an opinion that some fans may disagree with.
“I’m Team Jeremiah, because he’s just the better brother and he’s so much nicer to Belly.” – Annelise Stevens
“Conrad, obviously Conrad. Jeremiah is so cringey and Conrad is just better.” – Mairead Fitzgerald
Twilight-
Twilight is arguably the piece of entertainment that causes the most drama about which man is better for the main character. The debate has been up and running since the release of the first movie, and it hasn’t stopped since. Some argue that vampire Edward Cullen is more fit to date Bella, while others will argue that werewolf Jacob Black is the better option for her. Fitzgerald and Copeland give their thoughts.
“Team Edward, no question. Jacob is really weird so no.” – Mairead Fitzgerald
“I was team Jacob, but I have changed. Edward is better.” – Sienna Copeland
Gilmore Girls-
This Warner Brothers show can be an argument catalyst for many fans. The same debate as in the previous works stands in Gilmore Girls: which guy is best for the girl? In Gilmore Girls, the audience is left to debate if Jess or Dean should’ve ended up with the star of the show, Rory Gilmore. Copeland returns with fellow junior Elizabeth Gable with their takes.
“Team Jess. Rory and him were so cute together, their personalities were perfect for eachother, and their chemistry was great.” – Elizabeth Gable
“Between those two, Jess. He’s just better for her and I hate Dean.” – Sienna Copeland
