Which hit do students believe defined the summer of ’25?
Each summer society collectively decides on a ‘song of the summer’, a song described as inescapable during June through August. Although, this year there seems to be some conflict as to which song deserves this title. We spoke to some of the students here at Northern to get their opinion on which song should be crowned as the song of the summer.
Junior Scarlet Kneale gave her input, “It has to be a K-pop Demon Hunters song. I’m gonna say ‘Soda Pop’, Saja Boys.” The popular song from the hit movie K-pop Demon Hunters peaked at #3 on the Billboard global 200 charts, and it has remained in the top five for 11 weeks. “I’ve been hearing it all over TikTok, YouTube, it’s everywhere.” People all over the world were seen doing dances and creating new trends revolving around the song.

When former NHS student Jaslene Whitaker was asked her thoughts on the song of the summer, she replied “Honestly, I feel like there were so many, but also none at all. Maybe ‘Manchild’, it was all over TikTok.” Manchild, a track off singer Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album ‘Mans Best Friend’ also found itself dominating charts this summer. The country influenced, synth-pop instrumentals and playful, fun lyrics made for a very catchy song. Similar to ‘Soda Pop’, Manchild had its own dance, further boosting its popularity. Any pop-music listener has been sure to have heard this song at some point.

11th grader Rhys Valadie provided his opinion, “That song with Bruno Mars… Apt. My sister would play it all the time in the car.” Earning over 2 billion views on YouTube alone in just shy of a year, the memorable tune has been inescapable. The repetitive chorus is sure to get stuck in listeners’ heads, along with the pop-rock beat. It was awarded Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards and is expected to continue with its success as time goes on.

Junior, Alex King, had to say “’Sticky’, Tyler the Creator. I heard it in Walmart a lot, and other stores — but mainly Walmart.” A 2024 hit, which made its way to 2025, ‘Sticky’ off the album ‘Chromakopia’ continues to entrance listeners with its unique sound and features of artists such as GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and Lil Wayne. The powerful vocals and brassy instruments led the song all the way to its peak at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song of the summer for 2025 still remains undecided. There are many different views and perspectives amongst Northern students, ranging from all sorts of genres. The variety within student’s music tastes differentiates their opinions creating a multitude of answers. As for now, the song of the summer remains undefined overall, but each student has their own answer.
