After long practices and late-night meets, both the boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams took a victory lap following a 2023-2024 SMAC Championship win. With a tight team bond, support from each other, and extremely hard work, the season paid off. Gaining points through all of the events, the athletes helped each other to conquer the triumphant win.
With strength coming from all directions with hurdles, throws, relays, and meters the indoor track team accumulated points leading to their overall winning score. Stealing points from the 55 meter dash Senior Jordan Tuck took home 5th place gaining 6.63 points for the team. Senior Nathan Chaney placed second with 8.16 points for the 55 meter hurdles. Putting forth a group effort, the boys 4×200 meter relay team held a steady fourth place with a time of one minute 36 seconds. Senior Josh Wilson said, “I think we have a great team chemistry and we are always trying to push each other to do better and we only want to see each other succeed.”
This would not have been a team effort without the girls events. Pulling a competitive second place Senior Noelle Blackman ran in one minute and 23 seconds for the 500 meter dash. The 4×400 meter relay the girls team took home the win with four minutes 28 seconds. Blackman said, “Everyone was really hype and excited to run so we performed how we needed to take home the championship.”
These accomplishments would have not been done without the team’s family dynamic, Senior Tyler Brown said, “I think we all have a good bond on the track even though the girls and boys are separate we still come together and make a great team.” Being there from each other has helped the teams success and allowed for new friendships and bonds to form. Even though the team works together and trains together each athlete needs to pull their weight and do their part in the team.
