Concerns are continuing to grow amongst America’s youth about the advanced age of those who represent them in Congress. NBC News reported back in January of this year that “of the two dozen members of the Silent Generation now serving in the 119th Congress, more than half (13) have decided to run again in 2026.” This Congress is the “third-oldest in U.S. history, with an average age of 58.9 years at the start of this session one year ago. The median age in the U.S. is 39.1.” Being the third-oldest Congress since 1789 means that the “average age of the Senate, 63.8 years, is still years older than that of the House, at 57.7 years,” also reported by NBC News. This is creating a real problem and disconnect for many Americans, as today, the people who are supposed to be their representative voice are often significantly older than them. –Boris Nusinzon
