Other countries leaders are sharing their opinions on the recent capturing of the Venezuelan president and his wife.

President Donald Trump struck military bases in Venezuela. They “captured” Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and flew them out of South American country during a pre-dawn assault on Caracas. On January 3rd, 2026, Donald Trump’s administration stated that the couple would face criminal charges and trial in the US. From a 2020 New York indictment, they also added on that “they would soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American Courts.” President Trump told the New York Times “It was a brilliant operation, actually,” after explosions were reported by civilians in Venezuela.

On social media, Trump confirmed US troops had launched a “large scale strike” against Venezuela and claimed he would announce more details at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. Trump claimed long ago it would be to stop drug trafficking and remove Maduro’s presidency. He said, “The US is going to run the country” after the Venezuela strike “until such time that we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.” He made another post with a photo shown on social media with Maduro in handcuffs blindfolded, captioning it “Nicolas Maduro on board the USS Iwo Jima.” Trump says he and his administration will be taking charge of the Venezuelan government, and they will be choosing various people to rule over Venezuela temporarily.

Other countries such as Russia and China claimed that the US strikes were “unlawful and destabilizing.” Russia’s Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev told TASS, (Tactical Automated Security System) on Sunday that Trump’s behavior was illegal but internally coherent because it pursued “U.S. Interests.” Medvedev continued, “It must be acknowledged that, despite the obvious unlawfulness of Trump’s behavior, one cannot deny a certain consistency in his actions. He and his team defend their country’s national interests quite harshly.” Due to the lack of Venezuelan military responses, they are limited to the capacity to respond effectively making the U.S. scale its actions without a full scale of conflict. America has been a strict country with other people’s supplies and getting exactly what they are pleased of it, and they would be willing to start a war to get what they want.

In a recent poll on questioning whether Americans support the Venezuela attack capturing and Maduro in a threatening way, only 33% of American’s supported it. Over 1200 adults in America were surveyed in the Reuters/Ipsos poll with 11% of democrats and 23% of independents approving that it was an aggressive approach while 65% of Republicans agreed and backed up Trump’s actions. The rest of the percentage of Republicans are still worrying over the fact the U.S. is getting extremely involved in the foreign country and are afraid at what can happen now. Even other Global leaders expressed their disapproval claiming this was pure “crime of aggression.”

Democratic Congresswoman Betty McCollum, the ranking Democrat on the US House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, ordered Trump to immediately halt their strikes once again saying that the “Trump administration’s actions are blatantly illegal.”  The United States is facing backlash for their choice of approach to stop the Venezuelan military.
