With an early start to the morning, students entering the building at 7 a.m., Northern High School students must find a way to fuel themselves through the long school day. What better way to start the morning than with a nice beverage. With the wide variety of drinks at local supermarkets and popular companies like Dunkin’ or Starbucks, students have a variety to choose from to start off their morning.
Wired not tired… With the school day starting at 7 a.m., many students at Northern High School must wake up at early times to get ready for school. Junior Sophia Greene said, “I wake up at 5:30 but I am also here late because of sports.” Junior Melody Russel stated, “I wake up so early for school, usually 5:30am.” With the sun just starting to rise many students choose to crack open a cold caffeinated drink. Junior McKenna Boteler said, “I usually drink coffee or a Celsius energy drink.” Sophia Green also said, “I choose to drink a Celsius because it has a sufficient amount of caffeine to wake me up every day and they have fun flavors.” Energy drinks and coffee for an early morning beverage helps Northern High School students be awake and alert for their first period classes.
For the gains…Northern offers classes and clubs centered around fitness and health including the Iron Patriots club, weightlifting classes, as well as other physical education classes and clubs. Many students that take part in these extracurriculars choose to start their morning off with a cold protein shake/supplement. Junior Robert Upchurch said, “Before school I drink a scoop of protein powder in about 8 oz of milk.” Junior Connor Higgins stated, “I choose to drink a fairlife protein shake every morning.” Students find it beneficial to start their morning off with protein intake because of the efficacy it provides. Robert Upchurch claimed that, “Morning is the most important time to drink the protein powder because I use it as a breakfast supplement and so I drink that in replacement of breakfast and I get my nutrients and energy from the protein shake.” Connor Higgins also stated, “I believe it is beneficial to drink it in the morning because it is efficient to start the day off with a protein source.”
Can’t go wrong with water… Although many students start their morning off with a source of caffeine, protein, or another tasty beverage; a lot of Northern High School students still choose to start their day off with water. Junior Jettrin Feliciano said, “When I wake up I usually drink water, it’s something that helps with my dry throat, and it hydrates me.” Many students continue their water intake throughout the day, carrying around water bottles like Stanleys, HydroFlasks, HydroPeaks, and just your average plastic water bottle. Students believe you just can’t go wrong with starting your day off drinking water.
