Trump’s most recent State of the Union address, the fourth of his presidential career, is considered the longest in history, sitting at one hour and 46 minutes total. However, some saw a different remarkable quality in it.

The State of the Union address occurred on February 24th, 2026, with President Donald Trump speaking upon conflict with Iran, the current state of the economy, particularly citing successes through the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act, and the recent bipartisan win as the United States Men’s Hockey team received an Olympic gold medal for the first time since 1980. Notably, many democratic lawmakers boycotted this address, which is atypical considering the State of the Union is indirectly seen as a required attendance for members of Congress. Many republicans combated this with fury. House Majority Leader Mike Johnson claimed in a press conference that this boycott was “shameful,” however these democratic lawmakers argued they were well within their rights: some left-leaning sources even claiming it was not an official State of the Union address, on the idea that “speeches early in the term are not considered State of the Union addresses,” according to Matthew Mpoke Bigg of the New York Times.
