After the travesties that occurred in Florida with the hurricanes, Northern High Schools Honors Society decided to give back to all those affected by partnering with the Red Cross and hosting a blood drive. On October 22, students and staff flooded the gym to donate their blood to the cause.

The vibes were high in the small gym as music and blood were pumping. In order to donate blood, one must have been at least 17 years or have had a parent’s signature approving the donation. With the rules set, many students decide to give back to those affected by the hurricanes. Senior Cece Miller was one of the many generous students to give back. “I was nervous because I don’t like needles, but it was good!”

For the people who tend to be queasy-er involving blood, the Honors Society had their back. Fully equipped with a snack station and a support system, the Northern High community was there for each other. To support Miller, another senior and member Meghan Gilson was there. Gilson held Millers hand throughout the process, “I like helping people out.”

At the end of the day, Northern High’s Honors Society’s blood drive stands as a powerful reminder of the difference a community can make when they come together in times of crisis. By donating blood, students and faculty members play a vital role in helping those affected by the hurricanes, providing essential resources to hospitals and clinics struggling to meet the needs of victims. This act of kindness not only supports immediate recovery efforts but also strengthens the bonds within our own community, showing that even in the face of tragedy, there is hope and healing through collective action. Together, Northern can help those who are suffering rebuild and recover, one donation at a time.
