The teaser trailer for the new Harry Potter TV show recently dropped, with the show set for a release date of December 2026. There are many easter eggs and hidden details to be analyzed in the trailer in anticipation of the show’s release.

The opening scene shows Uncle Vernon sipping his coffee at the table reading the morning paper, and then cuts to Harry, getting shoved into the famed cupboard under the stairs. One interesting easter egg in Harry’s cupboard is a drawing of the flying motorbike which Hagrid uses to deliver Harry to the Dursleys in the opening chapter of the story. The next scene is extremely exciting for longtime Harry Potter fans, as we get to see Harry at his old Muggle elementary school, something that was referenced in the books but never actually written out. Harry is then being pinned against the wall by Dudley’s gang in the school bathroom, with Dudley preparing to punch Harry; the close up here is where we get the first view of Harry’s lightning bolt scar.

Another thing referenced by Harry in the books is Aunt Petunia, who this time has blonde hair as described in the books; she is cutting Harry’s hair short as a punishment. During the opening scenes, it is also Aunt Petunia narrating a voiceover of “I told you. You are a normal boy. And you need to start acting like one.” This fits very well with Petunia’s character, as throughout the first few chapters it is evident that she is trying to squash the wizarding parts out of him, and get him to be ordinary. As she is finishing up her statement with “There is nothing special about you,” the trailer cuts to Harry reading his Hogwarts letter for the first time.

This seems to be the opening into the wizarding world, as we see Harry with Hagrid on the train to London, with Harry stating “I’ve always wanted to know about my parents.” This is book accurate, as Harry didn’t know his parents were wizards until meeting Hagrid. Hagrid then gets a close shot, and his costume design and beard are ultra-realistic. And while nothing can replace Robbie Coltrane, this version of Hagrid is definitely well-designed. Hagrid tells Harry as they are exiting the train “The next time I see you, we’ll be at Hogwarts” and finishes with Harry running with his trunk through the barrier at platform nine and three quarters.

While on the train, we get our first look at Ron with him giving a hug goodbye to Ms. Weasley. The trailer cuts to the Hogwarts Express arriving at Hogsmeade station, and then the first-year students walking up to the castle and Hagrid giving two knocks on the front door, which align with the beat of the background music. Once entering, Professor McGonagall gets her first scene in the trailer, and then we see the golden trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermione) walking into the great hall.

The overlapping narration is from Ollivander, delivering his iconic line “Mr. Potter. I think we can expect great things from you”. While finishing the line, he delivers Harry with his wand. Then, we get our first look at Harry in class, which is presumably Charms class as the set looks like the one in the movies, as well as Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle showing up for the first time with their usual smugness. Then, one of the favorite scenes it seems from fans, Harry receiving his Nimbus 2000, and the Gryffindor team walking out to their match against Hufflepuff. The Quidditch Pitch looks amazing, covered in snow for the match.

The scenes following are just a bunch of nostalgic good times at Hogwarts in the winter, like Hagrid doing snow angels and Harry and Ron roasting marshmallows. Both of which didn’t show up in the books, but are really cool to see on screen. Finally, we get to see Snape and Dumbledore close up for the first time, and then the golden trio walking to the gates of the great hall.

The final scene of the trailer features the golden trio on the Hogwarts express, and Ron asks Harry a question. “Are you really Harry Potter?”. Harry gives a nod, and then Ron makes a mind blown movement with his hands. Finally, it cuts to the iconic lightning font letters “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. Then “Christmas 2026”.
