Tyler, The Creator’s newest album

On Monday October 28th , Tyler, The Creator released his newest album ‘Chromakopia’. This is his newest album since his release of ‘Call me if you get lost’ back in 2021, so fans were raving in regard to his new music. The album has fourteen songs, featuring several other artists such as Daniel Ceaser, Teezo Touchdown, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Lil Wayne, LaToiya Williams, ScHoolboy Q, Santigold, Lola Young, and Doechii.

The first track in the album ‘St. Chroma’ which features Daniel Ceaser, is a song with an astounding instrumental. The music is made by a collection of background vocals, stomping and clapping creating an imitation of several different percussion sounds. The instrumental and lyrics progressively get louder leading up to the beat drop later in the song. Following the beat drop is a ten-line rap verse from Daniel Ceaser. Between the inspirational lyrics, unique beat and build up it truly is a phenomenal song and a great opening to Tyler’s new album.

Following up later in the album at track seven, is ‘Judge Judy’. The song has a more mellow and whimsical beat, and calm lyrics compared to the songs prior. The song is sung in a story telling method imitating a love song. In the track Tyler, The Creator made a lyric reference to his popular song ‘DOGTOOTH’ which was released back in 2021. This lyric from ‘DOGTOOTH’ was immensely popular so fans were in a craze on social media following this song’s release.

Track eight, which may arguably be the most viral song on the album, is ‘Sticky’. This song features GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and Lil Wayne. These features came as a surprise to fans since there was no mention prior to the albums release of these artists. The first featured verse in the song belongs to GloRilla. With only four lines in the song, she still made sure her brief moment made an impact. GloRilla not only made her verse catchy, but also made sure her lyrics fit into the song’s theme of things being “sticky” and full of drama. Shortly after Glo’s verse concludes, Sexyy Red’s verse follows, then finally Lil Wayne’s verse. All very short but catchy, impactful features that really keep the listener hooked. The song is trending for good reason with its danceable beat made up of drums, trombones, and background vocals. The song has gotten a lot of attention with several TikTok dances, trends and even school bands covering the song.

The twelfth track is a very important song called “Like Him”, the song is about the absence of Tyler, The Creator’s father throughout his life. The song had a mellow beat in order for the listeners to truly pay attention to the lyrics. “Like Him” features Lola Young, who is a new and upcoming artist. The song was on the shorter end but still had an incredible impact. The song is almost a message to his mother regarding how he does not judge her for not keeping Tyler’s father in his life.

Then the final song is ‘I Hope You Find Your Way Home’ and is a calm ending to the album. It has a very peaceful tone with some light piano added to a simple techno beat. Even though the beat may deceive you with its calm instrumental, the lyrics are loud and violent. The song features a clip of an audio recording or phone call from a friend repeating the words “I’m proud of you” with more piano in the background. Then finally to conclude not only the song, but the album the last two words are “Chromakopia”.

Overall this album has an array of different musical components and instruments. It covers danceable, fun songs, along with calm and peaceful songs that carry a deeper message. The voice notes from his mother included in several songs added to the message and meaning to each song. If you enjoy “roller-coaster” like albums with each track having a different vibe, with beautiful instrumentals and whimsical vocals, give ‘Chromakopia’ a listen.
