With summer coming up, everybody is going everywhere to fulfill their summer with travels and memory-making. Some kids have vacations planned, especially the seniors at Northern High School, and students get a break from all the harsh classes and countless homework assignments. Summer break is what most kids dream about during the school year, and it’s finally here.

Some students here at Northern are choosing to stay local and go to the unfamous Ocean City. A freshman, Christina Thompson, who is one of those going to Ocean City stated, “I’m going to Ocean City because my family has condos up there that I stay at. I have been there all my life. I plan on working, swimming, surfing, and building sandcastles!” Ocean City is a great place to work in the summer, as summer is the busiest season. Ocean City also has been a top vacation destination for those in the DMV, as it requires a short road trip, and it is in the state. Many students here have fortunately gotten the opportunity to check out one of Marylands hottest cities.

Christina Thompson isn’t the only student going to Ocean City this summer. Another student, a sophomore, Nathan Roach, will also be visiting the booming city that will be packed with high schoolers from all over the state. He stated, “I will be going to Ocean City with my family for some beach time. I get to swim. That’s my favorite thing about it.”

One student, Madelyn Yeary-Miller, who is a freshman, is choosing to spend some of the summer out of the country. She stated, “We are going to go see Stonehenge and then a random Roman thing, and we will basically be driving from one corner of England to the other. We will be there for a month straight, then to Texas!” England is a great place for some world history, as they have lots of educational stops and landmarks in the small country.

Summer vacation is a much-needed break for students here at Northern High School. Students can also use the break time for internships, volunteering, job opportunities and can even use the break to expand their education even more. Everybody needs a break from school, no matter if you are a student or staff member. It gives us a chance to debrief from the school year, and prepare for the next, so make the break worth it!
